CASE STUDY
With the acceleration of global expansion, more businesses are choosing to enter the North American market. British Columbia has become a top choice for e-commerce companies due to its business-friendly policies, strong business environment, fast registration process, and clear tax framework.
CHYIELD recently assisted an e-commerce company in completing its limited liability company registration in BC, Canada, along with GST and PST tax number applications. The entire process was efficient and compliant, marking a solid first step for the client's North American operations.

Client Background and Requirements
Shareholder Structure: A UK company (ABC Limited)
Director: Mr. Zhu (individual)
Industry: Cross-border e-commerce
Client Needs: Register a limited liability company in BC, Canada, and complete all corporate registrations plus GST/PST tax number applications to ensure compliant business operations in North America.
Key Advantage: BC does not require a Canadian resident director. Wholly foreign-owned companies and foreign directors are eligible for direct registration, making it highly favorable for cross-border e-commerce businesses.

BC Tax Filing and Compliance Considerations
Filing frequency is determined by estimated annual sales. Estimated sales are reported during registration, and the tax authority sets the GST/PST filing frequency as monthly, quarterly, or annually.
GST vs. PST: BC does not issue a GST certificate—only a number. PST has an official document with filing period and deadlines.
Quarterly filing deadline: 30th or 31st of the following month.
Annual compliance deadlines: Corporate income tax + GST filing due by 31 March each year starting the year after registration. Annual return due by 30 June each year starting the year after registration.
Zero returns are required. Even with no sales or tax, returns must be filed on time, or penalties and interest apply.
Why E-Commerce Businesses Prefer BC
No Canadian resident director requirement, foreign directors welcome
No capital verification, no minimum registered capital
Close to the U.S. with convenient logistics and customs clearance, ideal for Amazon and independent store sellers
Clear tax framework, SME-friendly overall tax burden
Short registration cycle, approximately 1 month, standardized documentation
Case Summary
